Admist the Light

Vincent walked down the street silently, wondering just why he outside at this hour. He had earlier that he was out because he was bored, and felt like taking a walk. He heard a gasp, and something like a squeal of fear. He turned down the alley he had heard the noise, pulling his gun out slowly.

There was a girl, and it looked like a gang of guy where ganging up on her, probably to rape her. Vincent rolled his eyes. People had stooped to such a low, it was disgusting.

“Jyuuken!” He heard the girl cry, and a blast of something blue issued out of one of the men’s backs. He stared in surprise.

“You little bitch!” A gunshot fire, and Vincent lifted his piece, aiming carefully, to make sure the shot was not fatal. The girl cried out, and he fired. The men panicked.

“I-its Vincent! Let’s go!” They took off down the alley. The girl stared at Vincent in fear.

“Are you hurt?” He said, wanting to make sure she would be okay, before he went on his not so merry way.

The girl shook her head, and Vincent nodded, before turning around to leave. He felt her following him silently. He didn’t really care, but when they arrived in front of his house, and she was still there, he decided to say something about it.

“Why are you following me?” He asked, slightly irritated, and turning around. The girl made a shy noise, before speaking in a soft, shy voice.

“I-…Um… I… My home was… destroyed… So I came here and I was wondering if… maybe I… I could stay with you…” She said, avoiding eye contact as best as she could. Vincent took a moment to ponder. She was cute, shy little girl. Well, actually, she about eighteen. There was no way he could toss her onto the street like she was nothing. She could be attacked by those guys again.

“I suppose that would be fine.” He said with a sigh, turning back around and walking into his apartment. She followed quietly, her clear white eyes gazing around the rather empty room she walked into to. She watch in silence as Vincent grasped the side of his old mahogany coffin, and allowed it to fall to the floor with a heavy smash. She jumped a little at the noise, but otherwise made no movement.

“You can sleep on the bed.” He said yanking open the cover of his coffin. The stranger walked over and sat down on the bed, bouncing a little to see how comfortable it was. It wasn’t nearly as soft as she would have preferred, but it was better than nothing.

“B-by the way… I didn’t… catch your name.” The girl said slowly, stuttering softly. She stared at Vincent was silent for a long time before he actually answered.

“Vincent Valentine. And you?” He said indifferently.

The girl responded, “Hinata Hyuuga is my name.” She said softly, with a sweet, shy little smile. Vincent nodded, and got into his coffin, shutting the lid. Hinata stared at the large thing for a moment, before laying down herself, and shutting off the single dim light in Vincent’s gloomy room.

The night came and went amazingly fast. When Vincent opened his eyes, he was greeted by absolute darkness. When he opened his coffin, and smelled a delicious aroma in the air, he was confused. He went into the kitchen in wonder, and saw none other that Hinata Hyuuga. She was making breakfast.

She looked up with a smile, before turning back to her cooking. She was wearing Vincent black apron. The one he never wore, and wondered why he even had. He looked at her carefully. Was she blind? Her eyes where white, and pupiless. But she had been following him, and had actually looked right at him. There was no way she could be blind right? Vincent decided it didn’t really matter.

He sat down at the dinner table, and read the newspaper, which, to his surprise, was already on the table. If one had simply walked in, they would think that Vincent had gotten married. They looked just like a happy couple from TV. Well, maybe not happy, but content. With a sigh, Vincent read about hwo the world was coming to an end. He didn’t really care. He was a dead man walking. So the planet blowing up didn’t bother him at all. He knew what would happen after he died.

He heard a plate being set in front of him, and put down the paper. He stared at the meal. It looked delicious. He took a bite, it was delicious. He continued to eat, while watching Hinata carefully. She wasn’t blind, he could now tell, and she ate with much grace. She was probably from a rich family. Suddenly, he looked up, and began to speak.

“Vincent… I was thinking a bit while you slept.” Vincent nodded, “I was thinking… If I cooked and cleaned for you, would I be able to live hear for a while?” Hope flickered across her eyes for only a moment. Vincent was thoughtful for a moment. It would be nice to have someone around.. and she wasn’t like Yuffie, or Tifa. She was quiet, and shy, and actually kinda cute. He sighed and gave into himself.

“I suppose that would be fine.” He finally said. Hinata gave him a sweet, happy smile.

“Thank you so much.” She said with a small bow, before getting up, washing off her dishes, and then inspecting the house to decide where he would start her cleaning. Luckily she managed to borrow several clothes, rags, a vacuum, and a broom. Vincent washed off his plate, and left her to clean. He decided to go over to Cloud’s place, and hang out for a while.

“Vincent… since when do you ever come over here?” Cloud asked curiously, looked up at his friend.

“Cleaning is occurring in my house. I didn’t want to get in the way.” He said nonchalantly.

Cloud was confused, “By whom?”

“Hinata Hyuuga.” Cloud stared in wonder. “She’s staying with me for a while. As a roommate: he added as Cloud smiled suggestively.

“You just wait,” he said wisely, “she’ll grow on you.”

“I’d like to see her try.” With that, Vincent turned around, and left. Deciding to wander the town, he half-heartedly hoped that h might come across Gina. He missed her so much…

Eventually, Vincent wandered back home. He walked into his house, and was highly startled. Everything was completely spotless. Surprised, he walked around to make sure it was really his room. He found the Hinata was missing. He searched the house, and couldn’t locate her. Deciding that she had probably just gone out somewhere for a bit, but settled down on his couch, and stared out the window impassively.

He heard the door open, and looked. He was surprised when Hinata walked in, holding the key between her teeth, and carrying several bags in both hands. The bags were full to the brim with good. She put them all away, and got out the necessary ingredients for lunch. She started cooking silently. Vincent was quite content with her silence; it was one of the few things he liked the most about the girl. He didn’t know what she was making, but it smelled delicious, and he was eager to try it.

It wasn’t long before Hinata finished the simplistic, small meal. Vincent ate with grace, but couldn’t feel ravenous for more after he finished. He had never tasted a meal so delicious…

No since Gina left, for whatever it was.

“What is the problem, Valentine-san?” Hinata asked, wiping her lips with her napkin like a true lady.

Vincent shrugged, “I’m just reminiscing…” He said softly, sadly. Hinata tilted her head to the side.

“Who is it?” She asked, getting up and walking over. She took his hand, and led into the bedroom, where she sat him down on the bed, and sat beside, a hand on his, in comfort. Vincent could her feel her sympathy, her natural caring spirit, her loving soul. She wanted to help anyone and everyone.

“It was a girl I fell in love with… her name was… Gina. Son Gina.” He watched Hinata’s eyes widen.

“Y-you know Gina-chan?” She asked in surprise, a smile forming on her lips. “Gina-chan was a-a friend of mine f-from the village.” She explained. Vincent nodded, and Hinata told him everything. He knew she was skipping certain parts, out of loyalty to her friend, but he didn’t mind. Hearing about Gina again warmed his heart, and filled him with content.

“D-do you.. know where she is… now?” Vincent shook his head, and Hinata looked at the floor in disappointment.

“She said she was going to go to the ocean, to look for someone named Uchiha Sasuke.” Hinata’s expression darkened, but the anger faded away soon. She looked sad.

“What do you know about him?”

“N-not much…” She said uncertainly, “He betrayed the entire village to go look for his brother. He wants to kill him.” This reminded Vincent vaguely of Kadaj and his group. Vincent sighed, and stared at the opposite wall. To follow someone, even after they have broken your heart, and betrayed you…

Vincent knew that that was true love; love how it was originally intended by life. He sighed, and Hinata looked up at him in wonder.

“Why…” He said slowly, looking down at her, “are you always stuttering, and nervous. It’s like you afraid of the world.” Hinata stared at him, before looking away.

“I d-don’t know…” She said softly. Vincent smirked.

“Well, we’re going to have to work on that, now aren’t we?”

“W-what?”

“Say that again without stuttering.”

“A-ano…W-what?” Vincent shook his head with a gentle smile.

“Again.”

The days passed like that. Every time Hinata stuttered, Vincent would make her repeat the sentence until she could say it without a single stutter. It wasn’t long before he was always complimenting her, to encourage her, and build up her self-esteem. The same way he had to Gina. He didn’t like it when people had no faith in themselves. And Hinata was funny. He liked her a lot, because she was good company, and he liked the sound of her voice. He talked to her often, and tried his very best to keep conversations going, even though it was one of the many social thins he was terrible at. He didn’t want her to feel out of place with him, or like he didn’t want her around.

Hinata enjoyed Vincent’ company a lot. He was interesting. She liked to make him smile. When he did, it simply made him absolutely beautiful. She wanted to do her very best to make him as happy as she could. She didn’t want her friend to be sad. She was wondering why he was so sad, though. When they brought up Gina, she could se his eyes light up, so they spent a lot of time talking about the brunette. Hinata felt like she was gossiping.

Vincent did, eventually, did have to introduce Hinata to the group. Actually, he didn’t. He only introduced her to Cloud, but Cloud told everyone else about her. It was an interesting encounter.

“Cloud, this is Hyuuga Hinata-san.” He said indifferently. Hinata bowed with a shy smile. Cloud smiled softly.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Hinata-san.” He said, extending his hand. Hinata took it, and they shook hands. Vincent simply stood there, and Hinata watched for a few minutes as the two engaged in a conversation about something called material. Soon, she found herself wandering over to the flowers in Clouds house. They were beautiful, and she instantly fell in love with them. She sat amongst the flowers for what felt like forever, just watching them blow in the breeze. Finally, Vincent and Cloud stopped talking, and it was time to go home.

Hinata set to making dinner as soon as they got home. Vincent, once again, had no idea as to what she was making, but it smelled delicious. He went into the main room, and simply enjoyed the scent wafting through the house.

Vincent soon knew that he was falling for his little house maid.

You show me…

How to see that…

Nothing is whole,

But nothing is broken.
